Bait & Tackle Reports

Posted On : 2013-07-08

Things are slowly getting back to normal.  Fishing this past weekend offshore was fair.  Most people I talked to had a couple dolphins, one or two blackfins or yellowfins and several people hooked in to some billfish.  I got reports from inshore around the 14 buoy all the way to the other side of the Big Rock and it seemed like the the bite was the same where ever you went.  The forecast has it looking nice to fish today and tomorrow with the wind starting to pick up on Wednesday. Our chance of seeing rain increases Thursday and Friday.

We are finally seeing some Spanish being caught again with the water clearing up.  Everybody I talked to caught Spanish that trolled inshore with the majority of them being caught toward Salter Path and Emerald Isle. Some Kings were caught out around the 13 and Hutton and up around the cape. I didn't hear of any real big ones but it is at least good to hear of some being caught. Their are plenty of Bluefish along the beach and inside the inlet.  I'm still getting good reports of Flounder in the sounds, behind shackleford and in the Newport River.  The Trout and Drum bite is still slow but a lot of that is due to all the fresh water that is still flowing through the sounds.
