Beautiful Day in Atlantic Beach, NC
Posted On : 2016-07-12

Well it’s about time somebody cut the wind machine off!!

Looks like we are going to get a couple pretty days to finally get out and do some fishing.  The boats that have been able to get offshore this past week have had good catches of wahoo, Blackfin, and sailfish.  This is kind of odd for this time of year but it looks like there is a nice cool pocket of water to the south of Beaufort inlet in and around 45-50 fathoms.  With the water temperature generally getting hotter and hotter we are also seeing some good peanut dolphin moving in closer.  Folks are reporting catching some as close as the sea buoy with even reports of sailfish coming from there as well.

Inshore is still very typical for this time of year.  People have been catching drum back in the Newport River as well as some nice schools moving along the beaches, several reports of nice size trout being caught in deeper holes, and some pretty good size sheepshead being caught along the marina docks and port wall.  The Spanish and Bluefish fishing has been a little slow but that is mainly due to all the wind that has caused to water to be dirty.  With the weather clearing up some, we should see the water clearing up as well and with it will come better catches of the Spanish and blues.
