Bait & Tackle Reports

Big drum and Wahoo
Posted On : 2017-08-23

The large Drum in the Pamlico are biting very well.  Reports of people have good luck fishing for them in the evenings as usual but also having success with the popping cork method in the mornings and throughout the day.  The bite has recently just turned red hot and typically will stay that way through the month of August and in to the month of September.

Spanish and Bluefish continue to be a steady pass time in the mornings and evenings.  Most of the good fishing has been right outside Beaufort inlet and down towards the cape.  To know surprise, Clarkspoons on trolling weights and planers have been working best.  It’s always good to have some color options but you never can go wrong with good ol' silver or gold Clarkspoons.

Offshore fishing has been very sporadic.  Wahoo fishing will become more consistent once we get more in to September.  Along with better Wahoo fishing, the Blackfins will start to bite better as well.  As with every year, when wahoo and Blackfin fishing starts to heat up, Dolphin fishing will start to die down.  Fishing down south around the Rise and Swansboro Hole are always good "go to" places for fishing this time of year, and will heat up even more as we get later in to the Summer and Fall months.  When fishing around these areas this time of year, planers, wire and dark color lures are a must.
