Bait & Tackle Reports

Bluefin Tunas right outside Beaufort Inlet
Posted On : 2015-11-27

Bluefin Tuna have been caught for the past week.  With 2-6 fish per day, the bite has remained fairly steady.  Most bites have been coming right outside the inlet to the Cape Lookout rock jetty and out to the trawler buoy.  The fish have ranged in size from 74" to the biggest one so far coming in at 99".  I would imagine with the amount of bait we have that we should see this steady bite continue through the month of December.

False Albacore are still biting very well when the weather allows everybody to get it out.  It seems like the season kicked off a little late but now is in full swing. People are reporting catching them down the west beach all the way to the cape.

Speckled Trout and Drum fishing has been good but unfortunately the trend this season has been a lot of small trout.  Not saying that there hasn’t been any large trout caught but it seems the bigger fish are a little harder to find this year with most people catching dozens of 13" fish to finally catch one keeper.  At the end of the day though, still fantastic fishing.  Most of the trout and drum are coming from your typical places.  All the rock jetties, Newport river and middle marsh are holding fish
