Great Time to Fish
Posted On : 2013-09-04

This upcoming weekend is a great time to get out and do a little fishing if you have been waiting for that right time to go.  If the weather man gets its right, the wind and sea are supposed to be beautiful.  Along with the wind laying down the air temperature is supposed to come down to the low 80's which makes a much more comfortable day of fishing.  To top it all off the fishing right now is fantastic!!!

Wahoo fishing offshore continues to be doing well along with many sailfish being caught.  There have been a few dolphin's mixed in but that bite is starting to slow down now unless you find a school of bailers.  It seemed like the magic number for everybody fishing was right around 80 degrees.  Much cooler or hotter, only by a degree or two, and the bite slowed down.

King fishing on the East side is doing well.  Iv gotten many reports of people catching some nice kings around 1700 rock, D wreck, Atlas Tanker, ect... on live bait.  Schools of Shad in the ocean of died down some but there continues to be a good amount in the sounds.

Old Drum fishing in the Pamlico is Hot right now.  All the guides are telling me this is one of the best years they have ever seen and most all the fish are very large(40"-50")  They are catching them on Shad, Mullet, Croakers, or even Bluefish.  Don't forget if you go, you have use one specific rig which is known as the Owen Lupton rig.  It is a short circle hook rig with a fixed weight and only 6" in length.  If you have any questions about this rig or how to use it just call or stop by the shop.

If you want to stick closer to the beach the Spanish and Bluefish are still biting very well along the beach.  Clarkspoons work best when trolling for them or you can always cast to them, which is how I prefer to do it, with gotcha plugs, spec rigs or stingsilvers. They make for a great fight on a light action rod.
