Spots/Drum/Trout

Inshore fishing is really hot right now. Capt. Graham Willis told me yesterday that he has caught and released 48 Drum in the past 3 days.  He has also been having really good catches of some nice Speckled trout as well.  Spots have FINALLY shown up.  They have been biting in the turning basin and by the draw bridge in Beaufort.  The Spots and Sea Mullets(Whiting) both have been biting shrimp or artificial bloodworm's on Spec Rigs or a standard 2 drop bottom rig.  Flounder are being caught drifting behind and in front of Shackleford.  Although their are plenty of fish, many of them are small.  Typically it has been for every 5 or 6 you catch, one is a keeper.

False Albacore fishing continues to be great.  They have been catching bigger fish in the 15lb range down the beach in front of Emerald Isle and across the shoals on the East Side.  Their have also been plenty of smaller fishing, around 10lb., right around the Dead Tree Hole area.  The Albacore are still biting the 3/8oz. little stingsilvers, as well as any soft plastic that mimics the glass minnows they are feeding on.  Bluefish are pretty much everywhere you can cast to and they are eating just about anything you want to throw at them.  The Spanish Mackerel are unfortunately on their way out.  The water temperature is getting around 69-70 degrees which is typically the exit point for them.  Kings are still biting on the East side and are biting live bait better than any other bait of choice.

Offshore fishing this past weekend was decent.  The best catch that I heard of came from the Run-Off.  They ran a ways down south and ended up with 4 or 5 Wahoo, a hand full of blackfins, and a half a dozen dolphins.  The bite seemed to  get less and less the further north you fished.  I got several reports from the Big Rock and fishing there sounded pretty poor.

We still have several days open in November if anybody would like to play a good game of tug a war with some nice False Albacore or cast a line at all the Drum that are being caught.  Give us a call if  your interested in booking a trip and we'll make sure to put you on the right boat for a great day of fishing!
